===Verse 1===

Hear the voice of the Muse! I invoke thee which hovered<br />
In time before time on the face of the waters;<br />
Attend to her words, ye assembled herein!<br />
Thus spake she of old to the poets and fathers.<br />

In the time long ago, when the gods did the work<br />
(An energy transfer, as Newton attests),<br />
The Lord of Sky Anu stretched forth his right hand<br />
And with labours for gods humankind he oppress'd<br />

===Verse 2===

And Pkharmat the Forethinker looked on man's plight,<br />
That a system closed off was the realm of the gods;<br />
No transfer of heat could occur therebetwixt,<br />
So with heavenly fire did the trickster abscond.<br />

The flame of divinity gave he to man<br />
And their eyes came alight with the wisdom they'd sought;<br />
No longer in ignorance, nor in their childhood:<br />
The door to the rose-garden never unlocked.<br />

And the whole world groaned, for man was but clay,<br />
Ill-suited the ultimate state to withstand;<br />
To entropy always the Earth will incline<br />
Eventual balance, but doom for the land.

And entropy reigned in the world, I repeat!<br />
Though Adonai once had Leviathan slain;<br />
The coldness of death! 'tis the thermodynamic<br />
Equilibrium the world shall someday attain.
