Verse 1[edit]

In the first chapter of the book
The Wisdom of Solomon sayeth
That he who uttereth blasphemies
For his error surely payeth

The Spirit who doth search all things
This man's heart will penetrate
Justice will not pass him by
But the Father's wrath will sate

Verse 2[edit]

Their reason was unsound and false
Ascribing birth to merely chance
Death brings all that is to nought
As we join his gruesome dance

So then let us eat and drink
With us let weakness be there none
Thus they think and so will do
Until their earthly days are done

Bridge[edit]

No one prays to the saints of old
The ancient statutes forgotten lie
A crooked generation this
Who truth and goodness crucify

Verse 3[edit]

The righteous souls will see God's face
Beyond their earthly life's surcease
Trials of fire they shall endure
And through them come to perfect peace

Consigned to void eternal they
Will be who scorned the upright man
But o'er his chosen God will watch
And bring them truth to understand
