It used to be a churchhouse
But the crowds just wouldn't come
So they remade it into a cinema
Because that's way more fun

The faithful moviegoers
Sit quietly in the pews
Their altar now a screen to which they
Have unclouded views

'Tis true the cinema is church
That worships unknown gods
The public offers body and soul
To its unholy cause

The mass begins, the cup is passed
At the concession stand
Silent all, they eat and drink
But do not understand

And all the while, the flickering screen
A sermon will impart
Not with words, but images
That latch onto the heart

When the final chant is done
And light fills room entire
The congregation stumbles out
Unaware of what's transpired

They didn't see that this was church
Though they watched to be diverted
But heeding to the altar call
They all have been converted

The priest picks up a Super 8
And turns the camera on
He points it at the world around
A new day now has dawned

Images on strips of film
That don't bypass the mind
Confrontational and strange
No one has seen their kind
