Verse 1

Vanity of vanities, all is vanity
Of what use is man's run, while he works under the sun?
A generation goes, a generation comes
what is done? what is done?

Verse 2

The ear is not filled to hear
The eye not happy to see
All that has been is what will be
under the sun

Verse 3

If a man has hopes and dreams
and lives for many a year
does he see the end draw near?
Look in the mirror

Verse 4

Better be stillborn than he
for it comes in futility
and fades into obscurity
Of what does it come?

CHORUS

If I surrender my body to the flame
Pour out my life to see you gain
when all is done, I fear I work in vain
So help me God
So Help me God
