As a child I would sit, I would listen
As your voices crowded my mind
Oh Gods, I would run in the forest
But ever your faces would I find

In the stillness, in the quiet, I can touch you
Oh Gods, you are ever with me
In the sky, in the fire, I see you
Your eyes stare out from the sea

If I go down to the depths, into Hades
Even there you walk by my side
And I try to escape from you, Gods
Your presence can I never abide

If I lie with my love in the darkness
If I take her into my bed
Oh Gods, as I reach out to embrace her
It is you that I see in her stead

You are monstrous, O Gods, and I fear you
Like a spider crawling under my skin
For I wist no offering, no oblation
Can cover up the multitude of my sin

And my nakedness is ever before Thee
As I shiver, and I cower in the night
Thou seest my inmost desires
They are loathsome, they are foul in Thy sight

So I hide, for I cannot bear that Thou
Shouldst gaze upon all of my shame
But Thy Spirit shall never forsake me
And I hear as Thou callest my name
