Verse 1[edit]

When the world entire awoke
To find itself in uncouth error
One man stood against the tide
One man now is deified

Athanasius, Great Defender
Of the Orthodox religion
Pillar of the Church and Father
Of the Council of Nicaea

CHORUS[edit]

Athanasius contra mundum

Verse 2[edit]

Of the essence, one in essence
And eternally begotten
Dual natures in one person
Neither God nor man forgotten

This hold fast against usurpers
For you must needs understand
So that man might become god
God himself becamest man

Verse 3[edit]

Glorified, O Athanasius
Now you pray on our behalf
Look upon us, holy teacher
With a most propitious glance

Strengthen and uphold our conduct
That in it we may foremost
Ever worship in perfection
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
